Syllabus - Learning Outcomes
Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
- identify key aspects of fictional narrative, including plot, point of view, character, scene, narrative summary, dialogue, indirect discourse, description, setting, and style
- employ a critical vocabulary developed through an understanding of the above key aspects in the discussion and critique of both students and published writings
- demonstrate techniques for generating first draft material
- demonstrate understanding of a range fictional narrative writing techniques
- redraft fictional narrative, through the application of concepts of fictional narrative as listed above, and through practice in using fictional narrative techniques
- employ a writing craftbook as tool for collecting and organizing notes on the craft of writing and practice writings
- identify major critical perspectives on literature
