Managing Fictional Narrative Flow - Epiphany
Unit Completion Date: End of Week 9
[ 1 ][ Next ]
In the "Plot" section of the first discussion unit, we discussed the climax of a story primarily as the resolution of external events and actions. In the "Character" section, we also noted that conflict in a story can occur internally, that is within a character's mind, as opposing emotions or beliefs come in conflict. The resolution of these internal conflicts can also be seen as the climactic moment of a story.

There are other conceptions of how stories are resolved and how critical moments are framed, or at least more complicated ways of talking about climax in fiction. In this section, "Epiphany," we will explore alternate understandings of climactic moments, especially with regard to one of the more famous formulations developed by James Joyce.
