Congratulations on reaching a milestone in the course progression. You have completed the first discussion unit, covering the basics of writing fiction--point of view, plot, character, and description. In moving through these topics, you have developed or reviewed the vocabulary that will not only help you think and talk about your own writing, but also to provide thoughtful and meaningful assistance to other writers. This discussion unit, "Getting and Giving Help," will address general issues concerning giving and receiving advice in a workshop setting, applying (or not) advice received in redrafting, and special issues concerning workshopping in an on-line environment.
